Institute of Art and Technology
A world-leading institute for artistic, technological and transdisciplinary research
Operating from the heart of the John Lennon Building in the city that Carl Jung dreamt to be ‘the pool of life’, the Institute of Art and Technology hosts inquisitive and creative researchers from around the world: all teaching, all learning, all working together for a better future.
What is the Institute of Art and Technology?
As Liverpool’s international flagship for cultural and creative research, the Institute of Art and Technology is a supported and linked collective network of artistic research and technologies laboratories, each with a team led by inspiring researchers from four collaborating Schools: Liverpool School of Art and Design, Liverpool Screen School, School of Education and Department of Computer Science.
We have a congelation of an inquisitive team of brilliantly talented experts; four internationally recognised Art and Technologies Labs (Art Labs), excellent resources including Liverpool Fab Lab; global research collaborations; partnerships with Liverpool’s world-renowned cultural institutions such as Liverpool Biennial and Liverpool Tate; a large community of postgraduate research students; and close working relationships with businesses and communities in a collaborative, ambitious and edgy city full of culture, arts, music, storytelling, creativity, technological innovation, events and networks.
Each specialist Lab pursues specific research interests and develops research activities across the Institute of Art and Technology, including contingent Pop-up Labs.
